On the night of September 17-18, the Negru family from Străminoasa village, Bacău county lost their home, pets, all their possessions and livelihood in a devastating fire.

The three children, Matei (2), Miruna (4) and Maya (6) all emerged from the fire unscathed, although their grandmother had to be taken to hospital. The family currently lives with a relative.

The family is close to the Church and, having learned of the tragedy, the local Archdiocese of Roman and Bacău and the local branch of the Romanian Orthodox Christian Student Association launched a campaign to rebuild the family home, reports the Basilica News Agency.

“We want this family to have a new home. Any help is welcome and we want to help them overcome this burden as soon as possible,” said representatives of the student association, adding that they especially wanted to give hope to the suffering children of the family.

In addition to the funds, the Church and the students are also looking for electricians, plumbers and volunteers who can help build the house.

Food and clothing donations and volunteer volunteers have already started arriving this week.
