The Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture presented a check to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Monday.

The Chamber raised $480 in a cornhole tournament held during Muleshoe’s Independence Day celebration earlier this month.

Sixteen teams participated in the fundraising tournament organized to help the church renovate.

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church experienced a fire in December that was discovered during a Sunday morning church service.

The fire was contained in the attic of the church. It caused heavy smoke damage to the church, including its sanctuary, according to Journal records.

The reconstruction was a community effort. In the days following the fire, community members helped clean up and worked to bring the church into a position where the rest of the building could be reopened to its worshippers.
