Canal: a man enters a church during mass, shouting “Allahu Akbar”

On February 20, the gendarmes intervened at the Saint-Gervais basilica in Avranches in search of an individual who shouted “Allahu Akbar” when entering the church in full religious service.

As reported West of France, an individual entered a church in the middle of a religious service, shouting Islamic religious slogans before fleeing. The facts took place on the morning of February 20, in the Saint-Gervais basilica in Avranches (Manche), prompting the intervention of the gendarmes stationed in the city. According to the commander of the gendarmerie brigade quoted by West of France, around 10:50 a.m., a “Caucasian” type man entered the basilica shouting “Allahu Akbar” before slipping away. “There was no outing of weapons,” the commander said.

According to the journalist Current valuesAmaury Bucco, citing police sources, the suspect who is “possibly Chechen” would have entered the basilica of St-Gervais during mass, broadcasting rap and shouting “Allah Akbar” several times.

Following this incident, the gendarmes crisscrossed the city center of Avranches without however managing to find the suspect who remains actively sought. All the churches in the city have been closed.
